Why, when and where to Complain &Links

We are providing this information as part of our Consumer Awareness Assurance Program

Why Complain

Legitimate complaints to the Federal Trade Commission and other regulatory agencies are very important. One of the Funeral Associations main arguments for repeal of the Funeral Rules ban on casket handling fees in 1994 was that "there were no complaints on file therefore consumer injury must not exist".
This is because most consumers do not know how or where to complain. If you need a complaint form or help filing one out just contact a casket retailer for help. Also, please use form at bottom of this page.

When to Complain

1. You did not receive a General Price List from a Funeral Director when you inquired about Funeral costs in person (Federal Trade Commission) or answer questions about the cost, name, color, make and interior offerings of any caskets over the phone.

2. A Funeral Director says he/she cannot accept a third party casket unless you are present at delivery (Federal Trade Commission)

3. A Funeral Director makes Disparaging remarks about products offered by casket stores.

4. A Funeral Director charges or threatens to charge an extra fee for buying a third party casket.(Federal Trade Commission)

5. A Funeral Director gives you a hard time or treats you badly because you did not buy their casket and you saved money on the Funeral. (BBB)

Please understand, we are NOT slamming funeral directors in general. It is just, this savings is a big amount of money out of their pockets, and some may try to prevent or discourage that from happening. The industry is (getting) better with more involvement from competition and the public.
" RESTRICTION of COMPETITION IS NOT ALLOWED!"
